How to choose a cloud AI chat platform
Start with the tools your organization already allows. Then pick by the job: a saved assistant, shared research, or a deeper Microsoft build.
- ChatGPT Custom GPTs
- Choose this when you want a fast saved assistant with instructions, files, and optional actions. Business accounts may see Workspace Agents instead of Custom GPTs.
- Claude Projects
- Choose this when writing and analysis are the main job, and you want a persistent project with its own instructions and shared context.
- Gemini Gems
- Choose this when your workplace already runs on Google Workspace and you want a Drive-style shared assistant inside Gemini.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot agents
- Choose this when you want a light, no-code assistant inside Word, Excel, Outlook, or Teams, grounded in permitted Microsoft 365 content.
- Microsoft Copilot Studio
- Choose this when an in-app Copilot agent is too small, and you need deeper Microsoft integrations, topics, and org-wide sharing.
- Perplexity Spaces
- Choose this when the job is cited research you can share, not a fixed assistant with saved instructions.
Microsoft has two products on purpose. Copilot agents are the quick in-app save. Copilot Studio is the step up when that builder is too small.
If your plan has no builder, a custom assistant is still instructions plus optional files. Keep them in a note and paste them at the start of each chat until you have one. Cost and features change, so verify with the vendor and your organization's AI policy before you commit.
